Research Capabilities
Conducting research in partnership with the Eye-Com Clinical & Human Factors Research Laboratory puts a large spectrum of resources and services at your disposal. In addition to the research areas listed here, Eye-Com has the capacity to integrate, customize, or computerize any additional metrics or technologies you may require for your research project.
The Eye-Com Clinical & Human Factors Research Laboratory has the technological and scientific capacity to support various types of research, which include, but are not limited to, the following:
-
Assisting the pharmaceutical industry in screening and developing central nervous system (CNS) effective drugs
These studies are one center or multicenter clinical trials which focus on the pharmacological effects in both normal asymptomatic volunteers and symptomatic volunteers, to determine bioavailability and bioequivalence of pharmacological compounds and/or the extent by which performance (e.g. driving, reaction time, etc.) is affected.
-
Determining the effect of certain clinical conditions (e.g. ADD/ADHD, Mild Dementia, Sleep Disorders, PTSD) on human performance
These studies focus on the evaluation of clinical conditions in psychiatric, neurologic, geriatric and other patients to determine to what degree specific clinical conditions affect performance of daily living activities and provide guidelines for training and rehabilitation.
-
Performing research that yields improved higher order cognitive performance, judgment, and decision making
These studies focus on human performance in simulated operational and training environments to determine performance degradation under normal or specified conditions, such as sleep deprivation, fatigue, induced hypoxia, and alcohol. Also, comparison between novice and expert individuals can be performed using oculometrics such as eye gaze, fixation, or pupil dilation/constriction rates, to determine a novice’s weak points and recommend specific areas for training.
