Driver Drowsiness and Fatigue
The risks of drowsiness and fatigue affect not only drivers of cars and trucks, but also pilots, train conductors, and operators of heavy equipment. Sleep deprivation and long hours on the job influence operator awareness and performance, creating hazardous conditions on the road and in the workplace.
The Eye-Com™ Detects Drowsiness
The Eye-Com™ is a wearable system that can use eye-tracking to record optical measurements, such as Eye Blink Duration and Percentage of Time Eyes are Closed (PERCLOS), that are indicators of drowsiness and fatigue. Using the Composite Oculometric Fatigue Index (COFI) developed by ECC and validated by U.S. Department of Transportation, the Eye-Com™ can identify the onset of sleep and trigger an alarm to alert and awaken the driver. It saves lives by preventing impaired driver performance, ensuring that vehicle operators are vigilant and wakeful..
